A History of Custom
The “Custom Movement” we experience today was born out of the Second World–War. Motorcycles had been used with vengeance during the war as they boasted great maneuverability and the ability to cope with the rugged terrain. It was
Harley-Davidson who adapted a number of their bikes to meet the needs of the armed forces - they were loved by many.
Following the War as the economy started to reestablish itself motorcycles became increasingly popular and there were a number of riders who started using their bikes to express themselves and stand out from the crowd.
At Harley-Davidson we continue to support this passion today and offer a vast array of Parts and Accessories to inspire you. As Willie G. himself said, “I think of people who adapt motorcycle designs as folk artists. The vast majority are self-taught, using their own inspiration to craft their visions. Experimentation is a crucial part of the process. The possibilities are limited only by the imaginations of the artists. Custom bike owners are forever experimenting. We are always searching for that special look.“
So go on be inspired!
